It is with regret that the Hertfordshire Cheetahs have withdrawn their Under 12 flag squad from competition for the 2016 season.
Club Chairman Luke Clark made this statement:
“Unfortunately we have been forced to withdraw our Under 12 flag squad from the competition tournaments this year. This was not an easy decision for the club, especially after the squad’s success in their inaugural season.
We are trying to build a sustainable club for all, but unfortunately due to changes with the league age ranges the cadet flag programme lost a number of players to the upper age group, to the point where there were insufficient numbers to compete.
The Under 12 Flag Head Coach Scott Bellchambers and the committee will be actively recruiting more players in order take part in league competition in 2017 and will also be coaching American Football in schools. This is part of a long-term plan to teach flag football to as many primary school children as possible across Hertfordshire.
We will continue to offer training for the committed children that fall into the cadet flag age range and will try to arrange friendlies with other clubs. We hope this creates a fun atmosphere for the kids and they get hooked on American Football, moving up the age ranges with the Cheetahs.
The Under 17 flag programme will still be competing this year, with their first tournament being this Saturday, 7th May at St Albans Rugby Club. Please come down and support them.”
