The #CheetahPride is pleased to announce that Craig Barnes has been appointed as the new Head Coach for the Senior team. The decision has been made in response to the departure of Senior Head Coach and Offensive Co-ordinator Roger Brown, who leaves us due to personal reasons. We wish Roger all the best and hope that he will be on the Cheetahs sideline next season in some capacity.
The club have acted quickly in appointing Defensive Coordinator Craig Barnes as the new Head Coach. Coach Barnes brings with him a wealth of experience having coached on the Blitz Junior coaching staff, once HC of the Cheetahs Junior Programme and now coaches at the Hertfordshire Hurricanes as well as DC of the Cheetahs Senior squad.
Club Chairman Luke Clark said “Craig is an exceptional coach, who brings with him a vast amount of knowledge, we are delighted that he has accepted the position of Head Coach for the senior programme”. Craig said “The Cheetahs are a long-established club with plenty to suggest they are capable of a bright future. I am delighted to be able to work with the whole senior squad now as we prepare for the 2018 season. We will be establishing good values such as hard work and commitment to mastery of skills, as well as a reputation for playing football that is fun to watch and play.”
Our Youth team will also see a change at the helm, as Head Coach Andy Dickins has stepped aside to focus on work and home commitments. Offensive Coordinator Phil MacGovern has accepted the position of Head Coach, and takes on a talented squad who narrowly missed out on the playoffs last year. Coach MacGovern has previously coached American Football at high school in the US, and will be working with existing Defensive Coordinator Max Duffin, who has also coached stateside, to build a competitive squad of young ‘Cheetah Cubs’.
Phil had this to say upon his appointment: “I am excited and honoured to become Head Coach. I am going to build on lessons learned from last year with strong fundamentals and a positive attitude. I am looking forward to starting the player train to help out the whole club and make players Cheetahs for life!” Coach Dickins will form
part of a growing Junior Coaching staff, coaching the Defensive Line for the squad. If you are interested in playing or coaching for any of our squads, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
