The Hertfordshire Cheetahs are pleased to announce the full coaching roster for the 2018 season with some key additions, looking to take the club to the next level.
Firstly, we are delighted to welcome Ray Palmer on board who will be coaching the Defensive Backs for the Senior team. Coach Palmer started playing football back in the mid-eighties joining the Luton Junior Flyers as a tight-end and South Herts Seminoles, but moved across to defence playing for several teams including the Luton Flyers, Bedford Bombardiers and London Mets before finishing his playing career at the Cambridgeshire Cats in 2009. Ray stepped across into coaching and was defensive co-ordinator for the Cats until joining the Cheetahs.
The senior team also welcome two positional assistants in Gary Culleton and Matt Bright to the Offensive Line and Linebackers respectively.
Coach Culleton has followed a similar path to Ray, first playing for the Luton Flyers and moving to the South Herts Seminoles, Bedford Bombardiers and London Mets. Between the Bombardiers and Mets, Gary joined the Cheetahs (then Chiltern Cheetahs) playing on the Offensive Line in the team that made the Division II Championship Game. Gary continued to play on the O-Line for several teams before retiring from the Cambridgeshire Cats. This is Gary’s first coaching role, but his experience will be sure to benefit the Cheetahs Offensive Line this season and beyond.
Coach Bright has 7 years experience playing Linebacker for the Cheetahs before retiring in 2017 due to injury. Matt immediately stepped across into coaching where he will be assisting knowledgeable coach Rob Cardy in coaching the young and hungry group of linebackers.
We also add Cliff Moles to the coaching staff who will be helping Head Coach Ascanio Palumbo with the Cheetahs flag programme. Cliff, having last played for the Cheetahs in 2016, brings with him a wealth of experience playing several positions including Tight-end and Defensive-end for the London Mets and Hertfordshire Cheetahs. Cliff’s enthusiasm for the game is sure to rub off on our flag squad who will be looking to take the next step in becoming a force in flag football across the UK.
Cheetahs Chairman Luke Clark said “We are excited to welcome Ray, Gary Matt and Cliff on board. The experience they bring to the club is phenomenal and will only benefit our young and talented players. We hope this will help us take the next step in Britball”.
